Every year in New Jersey, 341,000 tons of prepared food goes to waste, while 994,800 New Jersey residents don’t have enough food to eat. Share My Meals is closing the gap between food waste and hunger by mobilizing volunteers to recover nutritious surplus meals from commercial kitchens and deliver them to local nonprofits that support individuals in need.

About the opportunity: Share My Meals is looking for dedicated volunteers to pick up meal donations from a public school in Vineland on Thursdays at 8am and deliver them to a soup kitchen in Vineland  (~10 minute drive).

We are looking to build a community of volunteers who would be willing to support this route on a regular basis starting as soon as possible.  

In order to adhere to food safety guidelines, Share My Meals provides all necessary equipment (i.e. insulated bags) to transport food donations safely and requires volunteers to track pick-up and delivery route start and end times using our smart phone app.

Overview
We are seeking passionate, energetic, and Christ-centered volunteers to join our Saturday Live Children’s Ministry Team. As a Children’s Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in helping kids connect with God’s Word, experience meaningful relationships, and develop life-changing skills. This opportunity is open to our regular volunteers as well as new applicants from the public who feel called to serve.

Don't know much about the Bible? That's okay! As long as you have a heart for kids, you'll fit in just fine.

You are invited to participate in meaningful volunteer service and fulfill service hours at the same time. Teens support Samaritan's patients through independent projects, joining our teen volunteer group SamariTeens, helping as a greeter/receptionist at our Samaritan Center at Voorhees, and/or helping at Samaritan Thrift. Samaritan is a non-profit agency caring for those with serious illness to help them live their best lives every day. 

1. Independent projects are available to anyone who wants to gain service hours but not join a group. We have ideas from collection drives, to crafts, to fundraisers, etc. You work on your own time. We provide letters confirming contributions.

2. SamariTeens is a group for 14-18 year old high school students who want to volunteer on an on-going basis.

During the school year, we meet once a month, either after school or in the evening from 6-7:30pm. We make crafts for our patients and families to enjoy, visit assisted living communities to play games or make crafts with the residents, participate in fundraisers, represent at volunteer fairs, and support annual events. No mandatory requirements, participate in as many activities that fit your schedule and that you'd enjoy.

3. Greeter/Reception for teens 17+ years old. Samaritan Center at Voorhees, 265 Rte 73 S, Voorhees. Answer phones, greet & escort visitors to the Center. Shifts available 7 days/week - 9a-12p, 12-3, 3-6, & 6-8. Complimentary training provided, medical clearance required, including COVID Vaccination and Initial Booster

4. Samaritan Thrift for teens 17+ years old in our Westmont store open Tues-Fri, 11a-3p and Sat, 11a-5p. Help with sorting, tagging and organizing merchandise, maintaining store cleanliness, etc.

All activities count as community service!

You can provide a welcoming presence to guests and our patients' families at our  Inpatient Center at our front desk. Considering supporting the Samaritan Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mount Holly by greeting family members and visitors coming to see their loved ones, escorting as needed to patient rooms, answering/directing calls, and representing Samaritan.

The Unit is located inside Virtua Hospital Mount Holly. The In Patient Unit Volunteers shifts occur on the weekends. Saturday and Sunday Shifts are the same: 8am to 11am; 11am to 2pm, and 2pm to 5pm. Our patients would benefit from:

Fidget Mats provide sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of our Dementia patients. They offer exercise, increase focus, reduce anxiety, soothe and calm nerves, and provide comfort. Consider both men & women when choosing fabrics and accessories. **NO small objects such as buttons or beads that patients can pull off and potentially eat.**

Adult Food Protectors/Dining Scarves provide clothing protection during meals. We have sizing and instructions.

Lap Blankets provide comfort and warmth to our patients who are bed, chair, or wheelchair bound. Preferred Size: 30" x 40" 

Prayer Shawls provide spiritual comfort to our patients. Approximate size: 57-58"

Hola Spanish/English speakers!!! Use your gift of language to provide compassionate support for local hospice patients and families. Samaritan needs bilingual Spanish/English volunteers to visit our Spanish-speaking patients. Visitors provide companionship and emotional support for the patients and their caregivers. They do not provide physical care. Visits generally occur once a week in the patient’s home or care facility. 

Samaritan is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization serving people in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer counties. Our hospice provides services with warmth and dignity for people with a terminal illness.

Volunteers assist with all the usual retail tasks - greeting customers, setting up merchandise displays, completing sales transactions, sorting donations, and maintaining store cleanliness and an inviting environment.

Flexible Scheduling. Teens 17+ years old may also volunteer. STORE HOURS ARE TUESDAY-FRIDAY (11a-3p) and SATURDAY (11a-5p).

Must have good customer service and people skills.  Complimentary training provided.

Help to set up and break down the arts activities located under the arts tents at Appel Farm's Artober event. Work with the Teaching Artists and assist guests with the art projects including pumpkin painting. Best suited for volunteers who love to interact with families in making art. One should be able to move about setting items out on the tables and one should wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy. Great opportunity for scouts, National Honor Society and other high school volunteer groups looking for hours. This is a free parking and no charge event. A volunteer waiver is required and will be emailed upon sign up for position.

These positions are indoors in our dining hall.

Looking for art teachers/college art students or equivalent who are interested in helping to hang paintings for an art sale, setting up a display of silent auction items, historic time line of the last 65 years of Appel Farm and didactic displays of various Appel Farm activities like a Memory Wall, In Memoriam display, Building and Grounds and more. Staff are willing to sign log books for approval on volunteer hours. (Must be able to hang artwork and move about gallery space. Instructions will be sent by email in advance and staff will be onsite supervising set up.)
November 7th from 1-10pm. Any time is welcome.

At the end of the evening, these positions will break down tables/tents and move trash to the dumpster. This position requires the ability to be on your feet and lift about 20-30 pounds. Good walking shoes and layered clothing advised. Great for scout groups and other service organizations looking to gain volunteer hours for membership.

(F) This position will assist in making a VIP reception a great success! Help set up the reception area including food and information table. Meet and greet guests. Of course, packing it all up at the end showcases an accomplished night! Must be sociable, some knowledge of Appel Farm, and be able to move about lifting approximately 10 pounds. Instructions will be sent by email in advance and staff will be onsite supervising set up and breakdown of event. Wear comfortable shoes and casual nice clothing, please.

Position is best suited for nonprofit professionals interested in networking with government, foundation, corporation and individual donors. This is an indoor position.

 If you are well versed in making a campfire, then this job is for you! Scout leaders, fellow campers, and all around outdoor friends are encouraged to volunteer at Appel Farm's Artober Event where you will start, maintain and close out the afternoon campfire. Guests will love making S’mores around the campfire with you! This is a free parking and no charge event. A volunteer waiver is required and will be emailed upon sign up for position.

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is a national movement that transforms a tragic day in our nation’s history into an opportunity for unity, service, and hope. On September 11, 2025, we will join hundreds of thousands of Americans in honoring the lives lost on 9/11/01 by hosting a Youth Service Project.

This year, volunteers will pack Project Appreciation kits—thoughtful “thank you” packages for local Emergency First Responders. Since its launch in 2017, Project Appreciation has brought together volunteers to create and deliver more than 4,300 kits to first responders across South Jersey. During this event, volunteers will decorate and assemble the kits for distribution.

ALL minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and should register as a team with their parent or guardian.

We are currently seeking a knowledgeable user of CRM platforms to conduct a comprehensive review of how our organization is utilizing the tool. The goal is to ensure we are maximizing its capabilities and functionality across all features, including campaign setup, donor engagement tools, reporting, and mobile bidding. If you have experience working with CRM platforms, especially GiveSmart, we’d like to hear from you.

Go Blue Event Committee Members help plan our Go Blue event on Monday, June 8th.  We will start meeting as a committee in January.  This event brings in a significant amount of financial resources for our organization, as well as creating community awareness and developing community partners. Step 5: After a full training session of 35 hours is completed, and all of your paperwork is completed and cleared, you are sworn in as an official court advocate and will be assigned your first case.

Ambassadors (Mission Messengers) help spread the word in the community about CASA and the work our amazing volunteers are doing. As an Ambassador, you will host and fill a private Snapshot event with ten or more guests who you think might want to learn more about CASA. To become an Ambassador, you must first attend a CASA Snapshot. When you help an adult, you help her or his entire family. At Literacy Volunteers of America, Essex & Passaic Counties, we have a long list of U.S. citizens and immigrants, among them refugees and asylum seekers, waiting for help learning to speak, understand, read, and write in English. We need volunteers to teach them! Here's how you can help: Learn to teach ESOL and Basic Literacy with LVA. After training, you will be matched with a small group of students (three to five students) and tutor them for at least two hours each week.

Become a volunteer literacy tutor by registering for our 10-hour (five sessions, two hours each) virtual tutor training course and then teach students in-person or via distance learning. This opportunity is for local residents of Essex and Passaic Counties or others that can meet in-person in these counties.

Share My Meals is closing the gap between food waste and hunger by mobilizing volunteers to recover nutritious surplus meals from commercial kitchens and deliver them to local nonprofits that support individuals in need.

About the opportunity: Share My Meals is looking for dedicated volunteers to pick up prepared meal donations from Edison on Tuesdays and/or Fridays at 11am and deliver them to a nonprofit organization in New Brunswick (~20 minute drive).

We are looking to build a community of volunteers who would be willing to support this route on a regular basis starting as soon as possible.  

In order to adhere to food safety guidelines, Share My Meals provides all necessary equipment (i.e. insulated bags) to transport food donations safely and requires volunteers to track pick-up and delivery route start and end times using our smart phone app.

About the opportunity: Share My Meals is looking for dedicated volunteers to pick up prepared and pre-packaged meal donations from Burlington on Thursdays at 2pm and deliver them to a senior living community in Bordentown (~15 minute drive). Volunteers will also ensure food is set up and ready for residents to pick up.

We are looking to build a community of volunteers who would be willing to support this route on a regular basis starting as soon as possible.  

In order to adhere to food safety guidelines, Share My Meals provides all necessary equipment (i.e. insulated bags) to transport food donations safely and requires volunteers to track pick-up and delivery route start and end times using our smart phone app.

Every year in New Jersey, 341,000 tons of prepared food goes to waste, while 994,800 New Jersey residents don’t have enough food to eat. Share My Meals is closing the gap between food waste and hunger by mobilizing volunteers to recover nutritious surplus meals from commercial kitchens and deliver them to local nonprofits that support individuals in need.

About the opportunity: Share My Meals is looking for dedicated volunteers to pick up meal donations from our various generous local donors on weekdays ranging from early morning to early afternoon, and deliver to our hub in Princeton. Meal recovery routes typically take 30 to 60 minutes roundtrip.

Home Delivery: We are also looking for volunteers to deliver recovered food from our Princeton hub to the homes of individuals in need on weekdays from 4-5:30pm and on Saturday afternoons. Home delivery routes typically take 60-90 minutes to complete.

Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.  Parents may volunteer with their children.

Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license.

Volunteers must provide their own transportation and have the necessary auto insurance (minimum of $300,000 Single Limit or $100,000/$300,000 Split Limit auto liability limits).

Volunteers must have a smartphone with the ability to download our food donation tracking app.

Volunteers must complete Share My Meals onboarding and training before volunteering.

Please note: This is not a one-time volunteer opportunity; we are looking for volunteers who are available to regularly support the meal delivery program.

Volunteer Requirements:

We have a need for volunteers in the following roles:

Community Outreach Volunteer - Responsible for aiding program with reaching out to the community by attending community meetings/events, canvasing community areas, and assisting Coordinator with partnership development.
 
General/Daily Operations Volunteer - Responsible for general tasks within and around the center. Provides staff with assistance preparing for workshops, events, and activities. Also, to aid with overall organization of the center.
 
Family Engagement Volunteer - Responsible for assisting Family Partner staff members with family engagement and creating a comfortable atmosphere for all participants entering the center.

The Family Success Centers are community-based, family-centered neighborhood gathering places where residents can go for family support, information, and services. We offer fun activities, informational workshops, and opportunities to learn and grow for people of all ages!

Living Proof Recovery Centers help individuals find their personal path to a life of recovery. Living Proof Recovery Centers - in five convenient locations across New Jersey - are volunteer-driven places of support for all members of the recovery community.

Are you an incredibly talented landscaper? Possess a natural green thumb? We're looking for volunteers to assist with the upkeep of our property throughout the summer months. Tasks include mowing the lawn, weed whacking and maintaining the sidewalk growth. Likely to take 2-3 hours tops, and happy to work around your availability! 

When families roll up their sleeves and participate in meaningful service projects, they quickly learn that they can make a difference in creating a better community– and a better world. We’ve put this tool kit together for instances in which your family can’t make it to Family Volunteer Day (Fall event), want to participate from home for Family Day of Service (Spring event), or when you simply want to get the family together to do some good. These volunteer opportunities are strictly DIY and can be completed from the comfort of your own home.

MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - WEEKDAYS

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County works to assist individuals to maintain independence, dignity, health and well-being by providing comprehensive nutrition services and helping ease social isolation.  Most of our participants are seniors and homebound.  Our service area is Ewing, Trenton, Lawrenceville, Hamilton, Princeton, East Windsor, West Windsor and Hightstown. 

Our volunteers deliver meals every day, Monday through Friday between 10am-12:00pm.  Volunteers pick up meals at Rider University in Lawrenceville and follow a route that takes about 1-1/2 hours to complete.  Volunteers enjoy getting to know the participants, and the participants appreciate the meal and the daily conversation.

We are building a reliable, empathetic, creative Volunteer Team to support our families and patients in their homes or the facilities in which they reside.  A few hours a week can make a difference for someone nearing their end of life.

Please note that Hospice Volunteers are required to complete the same onboarding process as any other employee.  This includes a background check and medical check as well as Hospice training, a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
