As part of our "Vision for Trenton Youth" initiative we are partnering with Artworks in Trenton to host an art exhibition and silent auction to support our partnership with Vision to Learn to fund free vision screenings and prescription eyeglasses for the youth in Trenton Public Schools.
In partnership with Vision to Learn, a complete program designed to help students from Pre-K through12th grade gain corrective eye care services that will help them succeed in school and life, HJAHC is providing prescription glasses to every child in Trenton who requires them, free of charge. One in four students in public schools lacks the glasses they need to see the board, read a book, or participate in class; in under-served communities, 95% of children who need glasses do not have them. Students with uncorrected vision problems are more likely to fail at least one grade, less likely to read at grade level by third grade – a milestone critical to preventing drop-out. Vision To Learn mobile clinics solve the problem by bringing eye care and glasses to children at schools in lower-income and under-resourced communities.
