African Women in STEM

Who We Are

African Women in STEM is an organization committed to helping women in STEM take ownership of their careers, increase their visibility, and rise into leadership and economic opportunity. We create spaces where women can access the relationships, resources, mentorship, and professional development needed to thrive in industries where they are often underrepresented and overlooked. We achieve our mission through leadership development programs, networking and community-building experiences, mentorship initiatives, workshops, speaker events, and strategic conversations focused on career advancement, innovation, wellness, and the future of work. Our programming supports professionals across STEM, healthcare, technology, entrepreneurship, and emerging industries, while also creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and visibility.

What We Do

We achieve our mission through leadership development programs, networking and community-building experiences, mentorship initiatives, workshops, speaker events, and strategic conversations focused on career advancement, innovation, wellness, and the future of work. Our programming supports professionals across STEM, healthcare, technology, entrepreneurship, and emerging industries, while also creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, and visibility. One of our current community-building initiatives is The Rise Circle (which I co-host with a female health tech founder Idongesit Obeya) — a curated experience bringing together founders, professionals, innovators, and leaders shaping the future of STEM and healthcare. Through intentional networking and conversations around AI, innovation, investment, financing, and human-centered solutions, we are building stronger ecosystems for collaboration and opportunity in New Jersey. In addition to supporting professional growth, we intentionally use our events and programs to uplift and showcase Black- and Brown-owned businesses, women-owned businesses. and minority-owned businesses. We believe community economic growth, representation, and access must happen together. Volunteers play an important role in helping us create impactful experiences, strengthen community engagement, support event operations, foster meaningful connections, and expand our ability to serve professionals and entrepreneurs across our ecosystem.
